Classic Margarita | 12 Days of Drinkmas

Overhead shot Margarita with lime wedge, on wood table with light bulb shaped napkins

It’s a weeknight (or as I like to call them school nights even though I’m no longer in school) and sometimes a glass of wine just doesn’t cut it. So, cue the Tequila. Tequila has always been one of my go-to spirits. Nothing says Tequila like a classic Margarita, which brings us to day 5 of DRINKMAS!

Blended or over the rocks, original or flavored. So many different ways to enjoy this classic cocktail. We’ve done our varieties of the margarita here at WWWW HQ. Like our Hibiscus, or our easy ingredient party version.

A classic margarita with a salted rim is always a winner in my book. Either way, you drink your Margarita, cheers to great times.

Shake up this classic cocktail in minutes. Cocktails don’t need to be fancy (all the time) just simple and good, will do the trick.  Double, triple, quadruple the recipe to make as much as you need.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz Tequila
  • 1 oz Triple sec, or orange liquor
  • 3/4 oz fresh lime juice
  • Kosher salt for the rims
  • Lime wedges, to garnish

Directions

  1. Cut lime wedges and glide a wedge on the rim of your glasses. Dip in salt to rim glasses.
  2. In a cocktail shaker add in spirits and fresh lime juice and dry shake for 15 seconds.
  3. Add ice into the shaker and shake for another 15 seconds.
  4. Add ice to your rimmed glasses and pour-over.
  5. Add lime wedges to garnish and enjoy.

Tips & Tricks:

  • Use cocktail salt or kosher salt, do not use regular table salt. Table salt will instantly melt and often times more saltier

  • If you don’t like strong margaritas you can add some limeaide, or lime flavored sparkling water.

  • If you want to sweeten up your margarita, add in agave simple syrup. It’s great compliment to Tequila, which is made for agave!

  • Substitute Mezcal for the Tequila if you’re feeling smokey.

The great thing about margaritas, they can be dressed up any which way. Add different types of fresh fruit or fruit juice and you have a brand new drink! In Hawaii, we have a seasoning (because I don’t know what else to call it), called li-hing mui. It is a combination of sweet and salty and we put that S**t on everything. From icees to fruit to hint** MARGARITAS! If you ever go to Hawaii and they have different flavored margaritas, you will find a Li-hing mui margarita. YOU NEED TO GET IT! I’ll do a special post for that in the new year.

This simple classic cocktail is perfect for something with a little more pazaz than your (usual- we won’t tell) glass of wine during the week. Try it out and let us know what you think!
