Tom Collins | 12 Days of Drinkmas

Two highball glasses with cranberries lemon wedges on fancy napkins with mini gold ornaments

I consider Tom Collins to be the boujee version of Gin and Tonic. Why? Rather than pouring Gin and Tonic over ice, the Tom Collins requires a little more effort. Like most things, a little more effort goes a long way. You’ll also need a little more ingredients than just Gin and Tonic.

I usually steer clear of Gin. I think that Gin tastes like liquid potpourri (yeah, I’ll be over here drinking whiskey, while KK drinks this gin). Although I have to say, I did taste a Gin that I didn’t hate. And there is a place called the Gin Joint here in Tampa I want to try. Also – Gin Fizzes are great. So there is still hope for me – Gin lovers you can rejoice! ?

Most of the classic cocktails for Drinkmas are simple with few ingredients. This cocktail is no different with ingredients you most likely have sitting around. SCORE! We like to keep things cost-effective here. The Tom Collins consists of Gin (obviously), carbonated water, simple syrup, and lemon juice. Let’s get our mix on!

Tom Collins

  • Servings: 1
  • Difficulty: Easy

The fancy cousin to the Gin and Tonic, I present the Tom Collins. A quick cocktail you can whip up in no time, to enjoy all the time.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. Lemon juice (freshly squeezed if possible)
  • 2 oz. Carbonated water
  • 1 1/2 oz. Gin
  • 1/2 oz. Simple syrup
  • Ice

Directions

  1. In a beaker stir all your ingredients together.
  2. Pour over in a highball glass filled with ice.
  3. Add lemon wedges to garnish and maybe some cranberries  & enjoy.

Tips & Tricks:

  • To jazz it up you could use a flavored simple syrup.

  • Use a good Gin – going cheap will show. With few ingredients, the Gin is the star of the show.
  • I used candied dried lemon wedges as a garnish. It brings the sweet and the sour – just like me ?

The Tom Collins might have veered me off the path of a hater of Gin (with enough lemon juice ;). If you like Gin though, give it a try and let us know what you think!
