I’m starting a new blog feature today: the Party Diary. I’ll write about my experiences at different celebrations and maybe include a recipe from the party! Sounds good? Let’s dive in!
I had the amazing chance of curating a cocktail for one of my best friends that I’ve known since the first grade, Amy Evans. She is the founder and marketing specialist of the Yellow Kitchen Media and also a part time model! But it doesn’t stop there. She also writes and makes music. I’m heckin’ proud and in awe of her talent and hardwork. #renaissancewoman
But she did have a soul crushing day job that she has since left and in honor of quitting her day job her sister, Audrey, and now mutual friend, Kingsley threw a surprise rooftop party to celebrate her leaving. The color scheme was black, white, and gold.
The beauty of an old friendship like this is that it also provides you with new ones. She introduced me to Kingsley, back when I was dabbling in videography, and we made it for her album, Crying on Holidays. Check out the book, the album and the behind the scenes Drink Along Tell All podcast and stay tuned because yours truly will be on an episode in September. We’ll have our very own blog post to remind you!
It was really cool when Audrey and Kingsley asked me to make a custom cocktail for this occasion. I made a glittery gold version of a boozy French 75 in order to super attract money and good fortune for Amy. I called it the Liquid Luck cocktail. A nod to the suspiciously enchanted drink in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince that Harry uses to get lucky …I mean be lucky. #witchymixology
You can find the gold edible glitter we used here.
CELEBRATE YOUR WINS OR IN THIS CASE YOUR LOSS!
And by loss we mean, the shedding of an experience that we no longer need to be in. We are all about healing here at Whiskey While We Work! We are also about celebrating your wins (big or small). It’s a personal and professional commandment of mine. We believe you should celebrate everyday and we know the Pandemic has made it so hard to gather. But maybe we should celebrate that things are different, exciting even because of the uncertainty and the values and perspectives that have come to light. Stay on those party toes, babe and be ready to celebrate changes!
Honestly, I had a strange moment of change at this party where I realized that I was KNOWN for mixology. That this is my job and that I really enjoy it. What a gift! What an honor! TY and I have actually decided to work on how we can create custom cocktails at events like parties, weddings, etc. Would you be interested in a custom cocktail? PRE-BATCHED COCKTAILS ARE THE WAY TO GO FOR A PARTY!
However even though it’s a fun job and I enjoy it, sometimes I don’t want to be stuck behind the bar. Or rather I’d want to only be stuck behind the bar the whole time and not socialize. I’m complicated. Thanks, social anxiety. Good thing I don’t run a blog about gathering or anything! ?
Anyway, I highly recommend a cocktail that you can make ahead and throw together all at once or as friends arrive at the party. Champagne must stay bubbly! Liquid Luck is a perfect pre-batched make-ahead cocktail. I also recommend foraying into spiked punch! I also love a good punch! Remember those? Let’s bring back punch and may leaving a shitty job always be in style!
Liquid Luck Champagne Cocktail
The name of the cocktail was Harry Potter inspired but there is nothing PG about it. It’s a golden twist on a French 75.
Ingredients
BASE MIX
- 8 oz London Dry Gin
- 6 oz Dry Vermouth
- 8 oz Strawberry Liqueur
- 1 tsp Chocolate Bitters
- 1 tsp Fancy Sprinkles FOOL’S GOLD PRISM POWDER or more to make as glittery as you want!
- 6 oz Grapefruit Juice, add more to taste.
FINISH WITH
- 2-3 bottles Sparkling Wine
- Garnish: Fresh Rosemary Sprigs
Directions
- Make the base mix by combining all ingredients except for the rosemary sprig and the sparkling wine in a resealable bottle.
- Pour about 2.5oz of the base mix into a champagne flute. Drop a rosemary sprig into the glass and top with sparkling wine.
- Refrigerate the remaining base mix until ready to serve. You may have to shake again to re-incorporate the gold glitter.
Tips & Tricks: Feel free to make a day ahead or even just a few hours. You want to be able to keep it cold.
What do you think about our first Party Diary Entry? Post COVID Q: Are we party people now or are we about that stay-at-home life? No judgments but I wouldn’t mind seeing a fight in our comments section below. ?
