We wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas, now bring us some figgy fashioned, we won’t go until we get some, we won’t go until we get some, you can enjoy it right here!
YOU KNOW YOU SANG THAT IN YOUR HEAD ?
I know you didn’t come here to sing- although the best way to spread Christmas cheer is by singing loud for all to hear! And we all sing better when we have a little liquid courage. This is a holiday spin on one of my favorite drinks- the Old Fashioned. I love figs, fresh ones, dried ones, jam ones. Why not put the two together?
Old Fashioned are a go-to for me because 1) they are simple, 2) they are strong. As a result of this minimalist cocktail, your ingredients must be of high quality. The normal Old Fashioned (which can be found on our Cocktail Cheat Sheet-all you need to do is sign-up for our mailing list *it’s at the bottom of the page) consists of Whiskey, sugar, and bitters. This version is very similar swap out the sugar for some fig jam and, voila you have yourself a figgy fashioned.
I used a local PNW distilled Bourbon from Freeland Spirits. If their bottle alone doesn’t speak to you, I have no words (except for all of the words below?). I love this Bourbon, it’s truly one of my favorites. (This is not a sponsored post, I just like this Bourbon. Mmmkay?) It is finished in pinot noir barrels- probably why I like it so much and blended with a small batch of 12-year bourbon. A little background on Freeland Spirits, it is a woman-owned and run distillery, with one of the few women master distillers in the industry. Can you say – amazeballs! They also make 3 different types of Gin, and have a hella cute tasting room! Karen and I have been there multiple times- a must when doing a PNW distillery crawl.
ALSO- GO GIRL POWER. PERIDOT.
Okay, let’s turn up the (*fig) jam. And the sweet & salty garnish for this figgy fashioned.
A holiday twist on a classic cocktail takes it up a notch and brings the festivities to liquid form. FIGGY FASHIONED BROWN SUGAR PROSCIUTTIO Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Coat prosciutto with brown sugar on both sides. Bake for 5-10 minutes, until sugar is caramelized. Remove from oven. Muddle down fig jam and a couple dashes of bitters together. Mix in bourbon and pour over large ice cube. Recipe Notes If you want the curled look, immediately wrap your strips around something round. Or you can weave on a toothpick prior to baking.Figgy Fashioned with Brown Sugar Prosciutto

Of course use you can substitute for your favorite bourbon and if you don’t like as sweet of a drink lessen the jam – although we like to party here, so pump up the jam, pump it up. Okay, I’ll stop with the jam puns as soon as I’m done with my figgy fashioned. Give it a try and let us know what you think!
Salutes,
TY
