Doing things a little different today! We are talking all things fried chicken because it’s national fried chicken day. I am sharing my fave spots, new ones I want to try and my fave recipe that I like to make at home.
MY FAVORITE SPOTS
Laurelhurst Market’s Butcher Shop
This one is kind of a secret because they don’t always have fried chicken available but stay tuned to their instagram and website and you can usually find out when it’s available. Pre-pandemic you could find me there grabbing meat and lunch on a Tuesday.
I am huge hot chicken fan and this is one of my fave places (possibly one of the only places) that serves hot chicken. The foods good and the aesthetic is so cute. They have two locations on Ash and on Bybee, which I will have to go to very soon.
This is located at the Zipper, which is like a food court here in PDX so if you hang out with people who don’t like fried chicken (but why are you hanging out with them tho? )
Here you can get 6 pieces of fried chicken and a side of jojos for $8! It’s a low key convenient store that is tucked away on the very popular Alberta Street. This is unfussy and hits the spot every time.
Technically not a fried chicken joint but I do crave their Five-Spice Popcorn Chicken. Also eat literally everything else here.
Speaking of lunch spots, I love their southern Thai-styled fried chicken. The Fried Chicken Leg Quarter Curry and Roti set is my absolute fave thing to get there.
THE ONES I WANT TO TRY NEXT!
Big’s Chicken: Previously only located in Beaverton, which is a trek for most on the Eastside, now they have a location on Glisan and I’ve been dying to drop in.
Yonder: This one is a PDX classic that is truly a southern treat with sweet tea and all the fixings.
Prey and Tell: Cambodian-inspired fried chicken open late! LET’S GO! UPDATE: I have tried this since posting this I really liked it. You have to try all the dipping sauces.
Jojo’s: This food cart has a hilariously irreverent Instagram on top of delicious-looking food. Their focus is more on sandos but you can also get chicken a la carte. UPDATE: I have tried Jojo’s and I regret not making my spicy chicken sandwich Nashville Hot style. The jojo’s were phenomenal and I wanna go back and try their burgers too.
MY FAVORITE RECIPE TO MAKE AT HOME: JOSHUA WEISSMAN’S HOT CHICKEN
Ugh my partner, Jared and I make this one way too often. Also want to try Primal Gourmet’s Paleo version here: Dill Pickle Fried Chicken. Always looking for a healthy-ish swap.
I love to wash down the fried chicken with champagne! Share your fave fried chickens restaurants, recipes, etc. with us in the comments below.
Cheers babe,
KK
